How We Handle Your Data

1. What We Collect

CloseWord is designed with privacy in mind. We collect minimal data:

• Game statistics — stored locally in your browser (localStorage). Never sent to our servers.
• Anonymous analytics — we use Plausible Analytics (self-hosted) to count page views and game actions such as starting, guessing, using a hint, and completing a puzzle. These events include the game mode and completion outcome, never your words or saved statistics.
• Google Analytics — for aggregated traffic and the same game-action counts. Game events respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control browser preferences.
• Cloudflare Web Analytics — Cloudflare adds its analytics beacon to our pages at the edge to measure page views and page-load performance.

2. What We Don't Collect

• No accounts, no passwords, no email addresses
• No cookies (except analytics)
• No personal identifiers
• No location data beyond country-level (from IP, anonymized)

3. Third-Party Services

We use:

• Cloudflare — for DNS, CDN, and DDoS protection, and for Cloudflare Web Analytics. Cloudflare may process your IP address for security purposes.
• Plausible Analytics (click.pageview.click) — privacy-focused, cookie-free analytics.
• Google Analytics — for aggregated traffic measurement.
• Google Fonts — for typography. Google may log font requests.

4. Data Storage

Daily and challenge progress, statistics, and settings are stored in your browser's localStorage. Practice progress stays in the current tab. Words and saved records are never sent with analytics events. If browser storage is unavailable, you can keep playing in the current tab, but progress cannot be saved. You can clear saved data at any time by clearing your browser data for this site.
